No Bake Tim Tam Hedgehog Slice

No Bake Tim Tam Hedgehog slice feature

It seems my last few recipe posts (Toblerone Lattice Slice, Triple Chocolate Mug Cake and Cherry Ripe Cheesecake Slice) have been a little on the chocolaty side of things, not that I’m apologising, I’m just making a sweetolicious observation. To say I’m a little addicted to chocolate and sweet treats would probably be a slight understatement and I’m guessing if you’ve found your way to this recipe post then you must share the same addictions, in fact it’s all mouth-wateringly perfect because today I have more chocolaty sweetoliciousness for you! (how’s that for a made up word!)

I recently got the notion in my head to mix things up a bit with my original Chocolate Hedgehog Slice  incorporating some yummy Caramel Tim Tams (for the record you can use what ever variety of Tim Tam you like) to create this No Bake Tim Tam Hedgehog Slice.

I love how easy a hedgehog slice is to put together, crushing biscuits (the fun part, see below), melting butter, cocoa and sugar on the stove top, adding an egg and some coconut, mixing those dry and wet ingredients together, pressing them in a tin, topping it all off with some chocolate, letting it set in the fridge a little (a little patience is learned), then slicing it up and enjoying (satisfaction guaranteed).

Once it’s set and sliced I guarantee it will magically disappear before your eyes especially if you’ve got a nice little bunch of people to share it with. One of my favourite things about baking is sharing it with my friends and family.

The 3 kidlets made the perfect little biscuit crushers, who needs a food processer?! Check out their satisfaction of being given the green light to make as much noise and whack something as hard as they wanted, (thankfully we were done in about 30 seconds!)

PS – I don’t know why it’s taken me this long to realise but using a potato masher to press your slice into place works an absolute treat!

Recipe type: Slices
Serves: 25
Ingredients
  • 200g butter, cubed
  • ⅔ cup caster sugar
  • 4 tablespoons cocoa
  • 2 Tablespoons desiccated coconut
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 250g packet plain biscuits (I use whatever I have in cupboard ie Scotch fingers, Marie or Milk Arrowroot) broken into pieces.
  • 175g packet Tim Tams chopped (I cut each biscuit into 8 pieces)
  • TOPPING
  • 200 milk chocolate
  • 1 tablespoon Coconut oil or copha (this stops the chocolate cracking when you cut up the slice)
Instructions
  1. Line a 21cm x 21cm square cake pan or oven dish with baking paper.
  2. In a saucepan melt butter, sugar and cocoa over a medium heat for about 3 minutes or until sugar dissolves.
  3. Remove from heat, add coconut, egg, and biscuits (when adding the egg just be sure to keep that mixture moving with a wooden spoon to distribute the egg evenly).
  4. Press mixture into prepared pan/dish.
  5. Chill for 30 mins
  6. CHOCOLATE TOPPING
  7. Place chocolate and coconut oil in microwave safe container and heat for 30 second intervals (in my microwave that's about 3-4 rounds) stirring in between until mixture is all melted and smooth. (alternatively you can melt it using stove top double boiler method)
  8. Allow to set in fridge for at least 30 minutes before slicing.
  9. Slice with a hot knife into squares.
  10. Enjoy!

  4. Did you and Lauren just coincidentally make versions of hedgehog slice at the same time? Psychically linked in the best possible way :)

We sure did, it seems to happen to us every now and then the other week we both had pita crisps a few days apart! A great way to be psychically linked for sure!

  6. So much chocolatey goodness! I love that video and think my tornadoes would have the exact same reaction to being able to bash some tim tams into smithereens. Looking forward to trying this recipe (and as for flavours – it’s original tim tams all the way!).
