Fabulous Foodie Fridays #59

Fabulous Foodie Fridays feature #59

Hello lovely people.

Welcome back to another super delicious week of Fabulous Foodie Fridays!

Before I start talking about my Fabulous Foodie Five I thought you might be interested to see what week 2 of the school holidays has delivered!

Zadada and I decided spur of the moment late last week that we’d take the kidlets away on a minivacation to our nearest city, Brisbane. We spent 2 nights in an apartment at Kangaroo Point and let me just say our 3 days spent in the lovely BrisVegas were action packed with deliciousness, ferry rides, pretty sights, fun parks, a little bit of shopping, oh and yes the odd tantrum (life wouldn’t be complete without those)……..

We drove the back way home to avoid traffic and I’m so glad we did, talk about the best of both worlds, we really are so lucky to live in this beautiful part of the world.

coming home

I will confess there may have been a slight detour to Ikea on our journey home which brought about a little assembly challenge for Zadada and I, we purchased 2 of those POANG chairs and I only had to say the words ‘are you up for a challenge?’ to Zadada and it was game on! Nothing like a friendly little husband wife furniture assembly battle, especially when the wife wins! Mr 10 had quite the giggle playing chief photographer and commentator!

For a little bit of gorgeousness I thought I’d round off my week 2 school holiday debrief with a picture of our latest additions on the farm, meet ‘The Triplets’. Zadada’s grandfather is convinced that these guys are genuine triplets and are the first batch of triplets he’s encountered during his entire farming life, we’re talking almost 80 years! I googled the odds of triplet calves and it’s 700,000-to-one! I’m thinking a lottery ticket may be in order to celebrate 😉 The kidlets have had fun helping round them up over the last few days.

The triplets

In between all this school holiday action I’ve had a lovely time reading through last weeks round of deliciousness to bring you my Fabulous Foodie Five.

As a little girl my beautiful Mum introduced me to Musk Sticks at our local corner store ,they’ve never worn out their welcome and now thanks to Children’s Books Daily I have a recipe to create them here at home or maybe Mum will make them for me if I ask her nicely (love you Mum xx).

Pretty Wee Things must know how obsessed I am with consuming Rice Paper Rolls at the moment. The café near my workplace makes them but the last few times I have been so disappointed to find they have either sold out or haven’t made them the particular days I work! Time to pull my finger out and get making some of my own like these gorgeous Vegan Rice Paper Rolls below.

Being the last weekend before school goes back school lunch boxes are on my mind so I couldn’t go past Maxabella Loves’ very clever creation of a Good-for-you Chocolate Crackle Slice, just perfect for lunchbox and afterschool treats, I’ll definitely be giving this a whirl for the kidlets ASAP!

I love homemade dips, I love artichoke and I’m just loving the idea of throwing everything into the food processor to make this Artichoke & Cannellini Bean Dip from I Spy Plum Pie. I’m predicting a Sunday wine and nibble afternoon in my very near future.

This innovative recipe from My Kitchen Stories, a classic with a twist has me very intrigued indeed…….turn your canned chickpea water into egg free Mayonnaise ,this is brilliant and looks so easy to do, the hardest part will be deciding whether to flavour it or not!

  3. It looks like you had a beautiful time on your impromptu trip. How wonderful and a family trip wouldn’t be a one with out a tantrum or too! ha.

My relo’s grew up out at Mudgee NSW and neighbours grandparents owned a 100+ acre farm out at Coola. They had lots cattle and sheep.
We used to go and stay in the house he built with himself and eat Oxe Tail soup and make tents out of bark from fallen trees and go bush bashing around the paddock.
I think of it now and would freak as a mother at the thought of my kids doing that, which is sad because its such great memories. With all my parenting worries I worry I’m not allowing them good memories.
But one of the things I remember is he’d name every single cow and calf he had, every one.
He had a book and everything. I never heard of triplets though… think you should by that ticket!

Looks like you had a great time and good work on the Ikea pit stop, you a game women taking hubby into that place… So never take mine, one he’d complain and rush me out, Grr and 2 he knows what I’m spending. ha!

You can’t beat a good farm experience Kim. I’ve never tried Ox Tail Soup, sounds like good winter food.
How funny of our 20 cows we’ve named only one and I guess the triplets have a collective name now too.
I usually get to squeeze in 1 Ikea trip per year yes the spending bit gets a bit scary I did warn Zadada in advance as we approached the checkout.
For the record I’m sure you’d be creating amazing memories for your kids, you’d be surprised what they’d tell you xx

      Thanks we surely did Angela.
I’m not sure about the naming? I’m guessing kangaroos would have had to be in the equation somewhere along the way.
It really is a beautiful spot.
      Thanks for stopping by xx

Awwww thanks lovely lady. Got to love a bit of spur of the moment decision making. Not sure about feeling refreshed, we had a fabulous time but with three kids we were exhausted, I said to Zadada we now need a little parental getaway
I haven’t bought that ticket yet, must do it!

  9. Your mini vacay looked like so much fun! We live so close to Brisbane, yet have never been to Kangaroo Point. I’ve now popped it on our list of places to go. And I am very impressed with your ikea build! Those things leave me in pieces, literally! One good way to test a marriage – if you can get through an ikea build you can get through anything, haha.

Thanks for sharing my rice paper rolls too 🙂

Krissy you can even catch a city hopper (old style ferry) into the city for free, the kids loved it! I was very proud of my IKEA assembling efforts, love it when I can get one up on Zadada too

  11. Aw thanks for picking me slice, luvs. And for the link to the MUSK STICK recipe which I would have missed and I am SUCH A FAN (I even need to use capitals I AM SUCH A FAN). I’m so glad you’ve had such a fun holiday (hello cute poddies!) (Um, is that what they are called – poddy calves or is that just the ones who don’t have a mum?) (I’ve been in the city way too long). I’ve been SICK all this week and only today do I feel a bit more like myself. It’s been rough. But all is well. x

My absolute pleasure lovely. I hear your SUCH A FAN love of musk sticks, ever since I featured this post I’ve been craving them!
I’m going to confess I’m a late comer to this cow business, if I had to give my thoughts on poddy calves I’d say that’s what they’re all called but I’m just the ring in helper sometimes, I really need to ask more questions 😉
Oh you poor luv I hope you feel better soon, it’s the pits being sick when you’re a Mum, I hope your little family is taking care of you. x
