Fabulous Foodie Fridays #50

fabulous Foodie Fridays #50

Hello and welcome to another oh so Fabulous week of Foodie Fridays!

Wishing all Mum’s out there a beautiful Mother’s Day ahead for this Sunday, let’s hope all the crazy weather is done and dusted and we get a beautiful weekend of sunshine.

I hope that last weekends crazy behaving weather didn’t do any harm to anyone. We were all fine here (just) but definitely effected! I spent my first night alone in our family home, never have I done that before, I mean I’ve been here alone with the kidlets and no Zadada before but that’s different because it’s a planned affair. Last Friday night my solo stay in our house was completely unplanned (and I HATE being by myself) don’t get me wrong, I like my own space but I always feel much more comfortable knowing I have other human company around me (you can call me a scaredy cat because I am).

Where we live, when there is predicted flash flooding for the area, generally that means we’ll be cut off from town and so far this year that situation has occurred 3 TIMES!!! Not normal at all, once a year is about normal and about what my sanity is capable of coping with!  The good news is I was fine just a little unnerved with the whole situation. Short of the long is I came home from work about 5:15 pm in pouring rain, I could see our creeks were up and knew we didn’t have long before we’d be cut off. I phoned Zadada who was picking the kidlets up on his way home and gave him the ‘be so, so careful’ speech. He was only 20 minutes behind me and in that time the water was well and truly dangerously flowing across our crossings. Zadadawith the kidlets had to turn around and drive back to town (we’re very lucky to have family in town), he spent the night at his Mum’s.

And that’s how I got to be home alone, I did have two furry friends to keep me company but was so relieved to see the sun shining when I woke Saturday morning, followed by Zadada and the kidlets walking in the front door . Ahhhhhhhhhh I just needed to get that off my chest.

This will give you an idea of how powerful the water is when it floods the crossings. The good news is as quick as it comes up, as soon as the rain stops it goes down again pretty quickly but the bad news is it leaves damage like this behind. The only way through was to walk.

We choose to live where we live so I really shouldn’t complain, it’s just a shame our local council doesn’t see repairing this crossing permanently with a bridge as much of a necessity as we do 🙁

The upside of living where we live 95% of the time (usually) is waking up to views like this. It’s much more enjoyable to be grateful for the good things in life.

the good side

So continuing on with being grateful and enjoying the good things in life, I give you my picks from last weeks Party…..

I don’t mind a Sav Blanc and this White Wine Sangria from House In Tillford would very much be welcomed onto my palate this Mother’s Day right about wine ‘o’clock.

How biscotti is made is something that has had me intrigued for quite some time and now with this delightful Orange, Lemon, and Lime Biscotti with Pistachio and Almond from Daya Always Says I can attempt to make some of my very own, it looks and sounds so good!

Do you say Brussels or Brussel? Which ever way you choose this Brussels Sprouts post from The nOATbook had me adding these little green treasures to my Fruit & Veg list, enlightening us with many delicious ways to enjoy them apart from steamed you can pop them in salads, on toast and even in Pasta. Thanks for the inspiration lovely nOATbook.

You can never have too many curries in your life, what I love about this little Cauliflower and Carrot Curry is firstly how bright and delicious looking it is and secondly that all you vegetarians out there can enjoy it too! I Spy Plum Pie you’ve done great!

I’m always on the hunt for quick and easy main meals. Good Food Week has definitely got one sorted for me with this Crispy Skinned Barra with Lemon And Pea Risotto  you can have it whipped up in 30 minutes. Barramundi just so happens to be Zadada’a favourite fish too, I might just have to surprise him very soon.

  1. So glad you stayed safe during the crazy rains. It isn’t fun being home alone, let alone during a severe weather event. My backyard started flooding and when it stopped raining I was so relieved. Even more when it was sunny in the morning.
And your little part of the world you chose to live in looks beautiful!

      Thanks Malinda me too.
Oh you poor thing with your backyard, there’s nothing worse than not being able to be in control of a situation and last Friday was definitely one of those situations.
Thanks for your kind words lovely xx

  2. Sounds like a very lucky miss, Dannielle. It surely is a beautiful part of the world, but that wrecked road looks so scary! I have spent a night at home alone (Bart took the kids away for a visit) and it was WEIRD. But good. Weird good. x

Very lucky indeed Bron, there has now been a better plan discussed if ever we encounter such a situation again. That road was scary and I’m sure will look scary again until the next time until council do something permanent to fix it!
I hear you with the good weird experience, you just feel yourself relax in a very unfamiliar way or a way that has not existed ever since your first was born! Weird good does us all the world of good 😉
      Thanks for stopping by!
Have a beautiful weekend and Mother’s Day lovely lady xx

  3. Mother nature really has got her knickers in a knot lately, hasn’t she?! I do love a happy ending and I’m pleased you survived being home alone! But wild weather aside, let’s talk about where you live, oh, so pretty! xx

She surely does Sammie, I think we might need to send her a pot of tea and some yummy cake, maybe then she’ll lighten up a bit with her weather dealings??
Thanks for your sweet words Sammie. I love where we live, mind you it has taken some adjusting to on my part especially when it comes to the flood bit! We feel very fortunate indeed xx

  6. I’m so glad your ok. There are always pluses and minuses where we all live, just some are very different to others. Having family from the country I know how appealing it is to live in such amazing surroundings, that view love it… If I could I would too my dear.

Me and mum say that Mother Nature is going through medipause… Lots of mood swings and hot & cold flushes…. Lol

Back to the food though, Brussels… Yum my fave, sliced up and saluted with panetta, nom, nom ,nom.

Happy weekend lovely, hopefully a bit drier.

I can’t wait to test out that Barramundi.
You have a fab weekend too and a gorgeous Mother’s Day xx
