I’m sure you all get those ‘I really wish there was something here at home to have for dessert tonight’ cravings, and end up settling for less with a couple of scotch fingers to dunk in your cup of tea. Not that there is anything greatly wrong with the scotch fingers and tea, but wouldn’t some homemade toffee apple pastries and 4 minute custard be so much more appealing? Zadada and I definitely thought so when I recently whipped us up this yummy dessert to satisfy those ‘I really wish’ cravings.
Would you believe me if I told you the entire dessert pictured above (you’ll find my recipe plus a brilliant GIVEAWAY further down the page) was whipped up in my newly gifted Microwave from Breville? I would understand if you were doubting my ability to cook puff pastry in a microwave, I mean what kind of

I don’t know about the rest of you but in our family if I asked the kids what their favourite dinner was I would bet last dollar on the fact they’d say Pizza! And to be honest Zadada and I love a good pizza too. Every now and then we treat ourselves to a takeaway pizza or 2, they’re so handy on a work night but if it’s the weekend and I have the time the best pizza’s we enjoy are homemade pizzas, you know exactly what’s going on your pizza, how fresh it is, and you can make them whatever size you like.
I’ve always been a fan of using the Hans small goods pepperoni, honey ham and short cut bacon when I make homemade Pizza’s, I love that I can buy such products and have them in the fridge on standby for a good month or more which is great when you don’t want to be running to the shops everyday, I do try and stick to doing one big shop a week.
Did you know that Hans have released a new healthiersmall goods range called Oliving by Hans when I heard this news my ears pricked up! I wanted to know more about these goods and what it is that makes them healthier and fortunately for me and you I got invited along by the company to see these new ‘Oliving’ products up close and in my tummy at a launch, yummy yum yum is what I’ll say to that!
On the day of the launch Oliving by Hans , Marmot Inc and our cooking teachers, the amazing ‘Stay at home Mum’ team (just quietly I was in awe of this gorgeous team, they have almost 500,000 followers on FB) took us on a little adventure to show us where the country and the market meets the city. We ventured to the Jan Powers Farmers market in Brisbane, picking up some fresh produce to partner with some products from the ‘Oliving’ range for our cooking class. What an eye opener so many delicious treasures all in one place! I got to try my first ever deep fried olive, I can tell you it won’t be my last, delicious!
With our freshly purchased mouth watering produce we arrived back at kitchen headquarters which for the day was the lovely Spring restaurant in Brisbane.
Renaud and Rhiannon were our on hand Oliving by Hans experts.
Rhiannon gave us a rundown on the Oliving by Hans products clearly explaining to us how they are a healthier option for the whole family. The branding ‘Oliving’ reflects the use of olive oil combined with only the finest quality meat, this makes the product significantly lower in saturated fat, big tick from me!
Inspiration for creating these products came from the Mediterranean diet which for now decades, has been recognised as an ideal nutritional model associated with long life, low incidence of various chronic diseases and better health and wellbeing.
The Stay at Home Mum team Lydia, Brendan and Kylie cooked us bloggers up an absolute storm, serving me my first ever dish of pancakes with bacon, maple syrup and strawberries, again another first that won’t be my last, I’ve had pancakes before but not like this! I just couldn’t wait to get home and whip up a batch for my little family!
I enjoyed every dish the gorgeous stay at home mum team made for us, Turkey wrapped blue cheese with slivered almonds & beetroot relish, Ham shelled quiche (I loved this idea, no pastry needed, low carb and so tasty!) served with a drunken chorizo and potato salad! I was in foodie heaven. There were cocktails too!
To see a video of our day’s adventures click HEREand no laughing (even though I did accidently sniff a bunch of baby carrots, I’m my mothers daughter she sniffs everything!) my experience in front of a camera is limited to when I was 5 years old on Romper Room!
We also sample some of the products in their basic form, my favourite was the gypsy ham. I quite often do a quick grab of protein and salad for lunch, and this ham will now be a regular protein on my grocery list.
These products have less fat, a fuller flavour (I can vouch for that, I ate way more than I should have!!) and are better for you….tick, tick and TICK (no ticks for me being a piggy, having a second helping of potato salad, it was soooo good!).
If you would like to read more about the Oliving by Hans products you can do that HERE.
You’ll find this new tasty and healthier Oliving by Hans deli meat range in Coles, Woolworths, IGA and some independent supermarkets around Australia.
Now the lovely people from Oliving by Hans sent me home with a goodie bag so I could do some experimenting for myself, the best way I thought I could do that was with some homemade pizzas. I’d been waiting for a great excuse to experiment with a parmesan pizza base. The timing couldn’t have been better I made some pizzas up for the NRL football Grand final (we have 2 footy addicts in this house, for the record I’m not one of them!). The pizzas were a great hit (just check out the 2 wide opened mouths below!),with flavours that packed a punch, we had 5 happy family members and the boys were very happy with the Rabbitohs taking out the 2014 premiership!
Zadada and I love a particular pizza I make with Chicken and avocado, so I thought I’d spruce it up with some Oliving by Hans Chorizo.
As for the kidlets, I think they would happily live life consuming only meat at the moment, as a treat I let them choose what toppings they wanted, my one stipulation was that there had to be some grated carrot on there too (I try for veggies whenever I can!).
Here’s my how to for the pizzas (note if time is not being my friend I just use pita wraps for pizza bases but nothing beats this homemade yummy parmesan pizza dough!)

For those of you following my page on Facebook, you may have observed I’ve been trying to spruce up my family room. I have a slight fascination with geometric shapes and gorgeous bright colours at the moment, if you asked me why I think I would just say because they make me feel happy, focused and tidy, strange combination of words I know but that’s how it is.
I have used 3 fantastic online businesses to help me with this little project of sprucing, all offering something a little bit different. In fact I thought they were so fantastic that I asked all 3 of them if they would be interested in a combined geometric styled giveaway? And of course the gorgeous 3 all said yes without batting an eyelid. Thanks girls. So without further ado I think a little introduction is in order.
